When it comes to dressing with a stoma during winter, personally I find this the easiest season to dress for especially for everyday wear. As it is colder, the clothes tend be bigger, more over-sized and all-round more comfy.

In general, everything I wear is normally high-waisted so it sits just above my stoma bag. That includes fashion for nights out over the festive period.

Supportive underwear works wonders if you want to wear something a bit more figure-hugging and I find powder works on the skin under the bag (where the bag hangs down) for sweating if you are wearing a supportive garment underneath! Just try to find something that isn’t over restricting and gives room for the bag to expand.

Having a black bag option is also fantastic if you are worried about wearing anything that may be slightly see-through.

If you’re not worried about your bag being seen through your clothing then that can make things a lot easier and do wonders for your confidence. Finding that confidence can be tough though and comes at different times as everyone is different. Some may never want it to be seen and that is totally ok too.

Although I’m giving tips that work for me these may not be an option for everyone and finding something that works for you so you feel confident and comfortable is important. There’s so many clothing options out there and I think it’s about finding a style that works with you and your stoma.

Confidence doesn’t come from the clothes you wear but it does help. Dressing around your stoma can be the easiest option for some people but then are you truly wearing what makes you feel good?

Finding confidence in your products will help you be more confident when choosing your outfit. If you have faith that your products are going to work as they should this will help put your mind at ease and then you can focus on wearing something that you want to wear rather than dressing for your stoma.

Finally, I always bring an emergency kit with me as you just never know when you may need it and this definitely helps knowing that if I were to have a leak, I always have a change at hand.
