Review of Respond Flange Extenders and Neutralise Drops

The great things about Respond Flange Extenders Respond Flange Extenders, is they come in lots of different sizes and can be used as singly at a side that needs it like you see in the picture with my colostomy or all the way round using 2-3 depending on size used, with my urostomy.

Flange Extenders

Overview:

Flange Extenders are used by some permanently with their stoma bag, to provide extra security. For many it is used to give extra support in certain circumstances where the bag me be under pressure due to sweating etc.

A flange extender is a “banana” shaped sticky strip that can be applied to the outside of the bags flange to provide more security. They are particularly good during long journeys, extended periods swimming, while taking part in any intense supports or those which may cause you to sweat round your bag

Key Benefits of the Respond Flange Extenders for me:

  1. Great selection of sizes
  2. Easy to apply
  3. Discreet colour
  4. Don’t feel you are wearing them
  5. Last well even in the shower or swimming for extended period

Why Would I Choose Respond Flange Extenders?

Quite simply, the Respond “Care Range” cares for you. I look forward to trying other products in the range. The Secure Security Range, gave me that extra sense of confidence I need when on holiday.

I feel comfortable wearing them. They provide extra security without bulk. I can interchange sizes depending on the occasion.

After trialling the different flange extenders, I feel the DFW80 would be ideal for occasional use with colostomy when I am away.

I feel the AFEL30 works well for all year round use with my urostomy as need less extenders per change. For others, this would be a good option for extra security.

Neutralise Drops

Neutralise Drops are generally recommended for a colostomy or an ileostomy for obvious reasons however, I trialled with my urostomy too.

I will be honest; urine and heat doesn’t go. Yes, you empty your bag often and change as needed but during warmer periods, the urine can still smell without being a sign of infection (but of course if accompanied by kidney pain or fever or unsure please seek support from your GP to rule out an infection)

Overview:

Respond Neutralise drops come in in a choice of 3 scents to suit different preferences.

Key Benefits of the Neutralise Drops for me:

  1. Three great fragrances
  2. Can tell when you are nearly finished and need to order more
  3. Works very well to disguise under pleasant odours

Why Would I Choose Respond Neutralise Drops?

With my colostomy, I liked the tangerine best, it seems to work the best for me and generally a fragrance I liked.

Even during warmer weather, I felt there was less unpleasant odours as I changed my bag, and this would give me confidence when out and about.

There is still a “poo taboo” for many but for me, I find the odour from the urostomy the one I am concerned about when out in public toilets (I often empty it, more than need to change my colostomy).

With my urostomy the mint worked really well and eliminated the smell in the bathroom. It complimented the lovely scent from my Respond Refresh 3-in-1 which makes me now, definitely holiday ready.
