My thoughts on Respond

As someone who has struggled with gut issues for years, I know how important it is to find products and services that actually work. That’s why I was so thrilled to discover Respond Healthcare, a company that not only provides high-quality health products but also understands the importance of providing a tailored service in promoting good health. In fact, they receive so many positive reviews it’s no wonder why so many people are making the change from their existing supplier.

Importance of having a choice

It’s no secret that the products prescribed to many patients with a stoma are not fit for purpose. I had an extremely difficult time with the stoma products that were given to me when I left the hospital, after my surgery back in 2021. The bags were horrid, with a rigid plastic seal and sharp edges causing me significant stress and discomfort as the seal came loose and the stoma bags burst frequently. The adhesive left a flaky residue that reminded me of the grease on a chip pan left overnight to go hard and cold. Moreover, I developed a rash around my stoma and became miserable in the process.

There were also times when I was left without any supplies as some of my emails were left unread or lost and the company’s inability to get my prescriptions signed off by my GP drove me to the point of despising having a stoma. I spent most of my time anxious and frustrated because the suppliers sent the wrong products or the wrong cutting size.

I missed two colonoscopies because the drainable bags that I required never arrived. I had to buy the drainable bags from Amazon to avoid any further delays. That’s when I was introduced to the Pelican ModaVi range and I’ve never looked back!

I also came across Maryrose @big_c_stomaandme on Instagram who is an ambassador for Respond Healthcare and filled in a short questionnaire on their website. The very next day I got a call from one of their lovely advisors who spent the time getting to know me and what I needed for my stoma. She was kind enough to offer recommendations for products that would make my life easier going forward. I was introduced to aloe rings and flange extenders which I never knew existed. She also arranged for some sample products to be sent out to me with my first delivery. Plus, I got a nice wash bag, which was free.

The whole process was so easy and I’m surprised that I wasn’t informed of the changes that I could make, willingly, rather than being stuck in a vicious cycle and hating having a stoma. Now, I love it! Especially the apple-scented adhesive remover spray (make sure to ask for it when you have your follow-up call after filling in the questionnaire).
